Found: Block Tutorials at Film In The Fridge

>> Wednesday, November 24, 2010

I've been on the lookout for great block tutorials lately after having redone the Quilting Blocks Tutorial page last week.  Ashley from Film In The Fridge has a great selection of block tutorials on her blog and I thought they deserved a post all of their own.  Get ready to be inspired! (Thanks, Ashley, for letting me feature and us all gawk at your gorgeous blocks! :] )

Updated Block Tutorials Page

>> Wednesday, November 17, 2010

I've been trying to think for awhile how to better organize and showcase all the different quilt block tutorials I have listed on the Block Tutorials page.  Previously they were just in a big long alphabetized list, which got the job done, but it wasn't very pretty!

A few weeks ago my friend Amy used a thumbnail linky to showcase all the quilts being entered in her Bloggers Quilt Festival - and it worked out so well!  I loved being able to see little pictures of all the different quilts as I surfed through the different blog posts.

So I switched over the block tutorials page to be the same idea - a big list of block tutorial links with a little thumbnail picture you can view to get a better idea of what the finished block will look like!  What can I say - we creatives are visual people, right?  ;]

I've linked up all the block tutorials that I had previously listed, but I know there are hundreds more great ones out there.  If you have a quilt block tutorial that you've made and posted on your blog - please link up!  And if you're looking for a great new quilt block to try, go and visit the new and improved Block Tutorials page!

>> Wednesday, September 1, 2010

I am loving spiderweb and string blocks lately and thought how pretty they'd be in a rainbow color scheme ... how's this for a gorgeous source of inspiration?

Do you have any other tutorials for these blocks you've used? Are you liking string and spiderweb blocks as much as I am?

Anyone in need of a few new awesome block tutorials?! I've found some good ones recently:

Betty Ninja has a simple but striking cross quilt block tutorial, check out how she's done it in HOT pink:

Hot Pink Cross Quilt

Bitty Bird Quilts did a great tutorial on one of my favorite blocks - the whirligig.

I'm sure you've seen these blocks around - but if you haven't you MUST check out the two great tutorials that Little Miss Shabby has done - the Scrapbuster block and the Scrapbuster #2 block.  They're both so cool!

Heather put her touch on a spiderweb block tutorial that has tons of pictures and detailed notes -- just my kind of tut! :]

And Zonnah created this stunning wonky star ring block - and lucky for us she provided a very detailed tutorial!  Love it!

Also, I'm getting ready to do a big update to the Master List of Virtual Quilting Bees.  Can you check it out and let me know if there's any you know of that aren't listed yet?

Here are some recent links I've run across recently to add to our ongoing list of block tutorials.

1. Krommama came up with this tutorial for these log cabin house blocks ... aren't they adorable?

Here's an example of one of the blocks made for her:
