Pick Five Monday: triangle edition

>> Monday, April 12, 2010

This weeks Pick Five Monday is centered around TRIANGLES! To me triangles can look both traditional and modern and are a great way to get a lot of different looks in a block. Here's my five favorite blocks for this week:

Sew New To Me Virtual Quilting Bee * Corey *

This stunning gray/blue/green block made by Heather out of half-square triangles and then placed in a subtle zig-zag pattern is one of my all-time favorites. I need to hunt down to see if this full quilt is finished, I bet it's pretty with these colors!

tacha block 2

Are you just dying at the sheer awesomeness of this block? It's got so much going on (including triangles!) but still manages to be simple enough that it's not TOO crazy. Love the color scheme, too! Tacha made it!

Around The Block - November for Lynn

Another zig-zag type block, this one made by Chaletgirl13. Brighter colors make for a more striking block! This block was made using the no-triangle method - so it's a triangle block that really isn't! :)

left overs ...

Monah2008 explains that she made this block using some leftover triangles that had been cut from the corners of other blocks, to make this "memory block". Great scraps idea!

LP2 June Block for Mary1

Ripping Out Seams says that triangles aren't her forte but look at this beautiful block she made! It reminds me of a fabric bunting!

A few block tutorials that feature triangles:

Zig Zag block
Circular Flying Geese, paper pieced
Wonky Maverik Star
